One of the biggest changes I see as a physical therapist is that people are living longer—but many are struggling to maintain the strength, balance, and energy needed to fully enjoy those years.
Whether it’s natural aging, recovering from an injury, dealing with arthritis, managing chronic health conditions, or even taking medications that affect appetite and muscle mass, the challenge is often the same:
How do we maintain strength and function as we age?
This is one of the reasons I am so passionate about Reformer Pilates.
The reformer provides resistance training in a way that is gentle on the joints while still challenging the muscles. It allows us to build strength, improve balance, increase flexibility, and support bone health without the pounding and stress that often come with traditional exercise.
What I love most is that the reformer truly meets you where you are. Some days you feel strong and energized. Other days your body feels stiff, tired, or achy.
The springs and support of the reformer allow us to adjust the workout to what your body needs while still giving your muscles an important message:
“Stay strong.”
That message becomes increasingly important as we age.
Muscle loss naturally occurs over time, and with it can come decreased balance, slower reaction times, reduced mobility, and increased risk of falls.
Strength training is one of the most powerful tools we have to combat those changes.
At Perle PT & Pilates, we see the benefits every day:
✔ Improved posture
✔ Better balance and confidence
✔ Increased core strength
✔ Easier movement in everyday activities
✔ Greater flexibility and mobility
✔ Support for bone health
✔ Reduced aches and stiffness
✔ Better body awareness and coordination
Many clients tell us they came to Pilates hoping to feel better physically—but what surprised them was how much better they felt mentally. The focused breathing, intentional movement, and mind-body connection often leave people feeling more energized, less stressed, and more connected to their bodies.
The goal isn’t to exercise harder. The goal is to move smarter.
Consistent movement, thoughtful strength training, and healthy habits can have a tremendous impact on your long-term health and independence.
Whether you’re recovering from an injury, looking to prevent future problems, managing a health condition, or simply wanting to stay active and strong for years to come, Reformer Pilates offers a safe and effective path forward.
You don’t have to be stronger before you start. You simply have to start where you are.
And we’ll help you from there.
If you’ve experienced the benefits of Reformer Pilates firsthand, we’d love for you to share your story with a friend or family member who could benefit from moving better, feeling stronger, and improving their overall health.
Some of our favorite success stories begin with a simple invitation from a friend.
And if you’ve taken a break from your Pilates routine, consider this your gentle reminder that it’s never too late to come back. You don’t need to be stronger, more flexible, or “get back in shape” before returning. Reformer Pilates is designed to meet you exactly where you are today.
A few consistent classes can help you rebuild strength, restore confidence, and reconnect with your body. Your future self will thank you for starting again.
